AMIC with Chondro-Gide, step by step

Arthroscopic view of a knee cartilage defect being prepared for AMIC

AMIC technique

AMIC (Autologous Matrix-Induced Chondrogenesis) combines microfracture with a Chondro-Gide collagen membrane as part of a single-stage approach to cartilage repair.

The cartilage defect is first prepared and assessed arthroscopically. The defect is then measured and the Chondro-Gide membrane prepared to size. Microfracture stimulates the body's natural repair response, and the membrane is positioned over the defect and secured with fibrin glue, creating a protected environment to support the repair process.

This overview highlights the surgical workflow and the role of Chondro-Gide within the AMIC technique for cartilage defects of the knee. Images courtesy of Geistlich.
