Chondro-Gide®

Bilayer Collagen Matrix

Chondro-Gide is the leading natural collagen matrix in cartilage regeneration. This easy to handle matrix can be used to treat cartilage defects with various surgical methods. Chondro-Gide consists of natural collagen. The unique bilayer structure of the matrix is manufactured in a patented process.

Surgical Techniques using Chondro-Gide

  • AMIC® (Autologous matrix-induced Chondrogenesis) is a single step, cost-efficient and effective technique for treating traumatic cartilage defects. Chondro-Gide offers a protective environment for cell differentiation and the formation of new cartilage.

  • ACI (Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation) – Chondro-Gide provides an ideal 3D supportive matrix for adherence of autologous cultured chondrocytes and encourages their proliferation.

  • MAST (Matrix-Assisted Stem Cell Transplantation) – Chondro-gide provides an ideal scaffold to seed first with Bone Marrow Aspirate, providing cells that stay within the chondro-gide during and after implantation.

Autologous matrix-induced chondrogenesis and bone marrow aspirate concentrate compared with microfracture for arthroscopic treatment of femoroacetabular impingement and chondral lesions of the hip: bridging the osteoarthritis gap and facilitating enhanced recovery

This study presents several positive features. Its one-step nature allows early mobilization. The good clinical outcome showed that the use of AMIC.BMAC could be a promising option for the treatment of cartilage defects.

The main limitations of the study include the limited number of patients and the heterogeneity. This was a retrospective study, and patients were not randomised. The baseline characteristics were, however, similar in both groups. Clinical outcome was only assessed using one functional outcome score.

This study suggests that BR using AMIC+BMAC has better functional outcomes than MF and supports the current literature body of growing evidence. Further higher-quality studies are required to consolidate the evidence base.

Cold compression is available with all AMIC® procedures with VPULSE®. Each patient will be given a code to contact us allowing them to claim their free unit and cuff to aid the recovery post op.
