HPS™

The continuing dilemma in spinal fusion is that rigid fixation, and especially multi-level rigid fixation causes stress related pathology at adjacent spinal segments (adjacent segment disease), and the challenge of correct adjustment of the sagittal profile is an added concern. HPS™ (Hybrid Performance System) is a dual concept top loading pedicle screw system designed to combine modern rigid fixation with a dynamic coupler to reduce the stresses on adjacent segments thereby reducing the risk of ASD. The unique coupler, which is available in a choice of stiffness has been clinically proven in more than 5,000 cases worldwide. The coupler allows a smooth transition between rigid and semi-rigid stabilisation and allows for controlled motion in flexion/extension and lateral bending with a significant reduction in rotation and translation. The 2mm longitudinal displacement ensures the maintenance of physiological kinematics and preservation of the natural centre of rotation.
